St. Simeon Skete, Taylorsville Kentucky USA

With St. Simeon, the God receiver, as our patron, the skete seeks to practice the ideals found in our Rule, The Thousand Day Nazareth. In simplicity and poverty, the skete embraces the struggle of inner life through the practice of the Prayer Rope.

Round the clock prayer for Kenya

Dear Nazareth House Friends,
In light of the unrest in Kenya, Nazareth House is asking your prayers for the people, the leaders and the country as a whole. Prayer is what opened the doors to our work in Sierra Leone and is the most we can do for any situation.

In 2005, the following prayer composed by Fr. Seraphim was prayed extensively throughout Sierra Leone as we were on the ground during a mission trip. You may find it helpful to use for the troubles in Kenya.

Merciful God,
Recieve the prayers we offer for our anxious and troubled world. Send thy light into our darkness and guide the nations as one family into the ways of peace. We, together on the earth, belong to you. May we see one another as you see us. Help us to love one another, teach us to understand each other, just as you, understand us. Make us fresh as the morning, make our hearts free of fear. May we forgive each other and forget the past. Strengthen in us day by day, the desire for you. Amen.

There is interest in putting together a 24 hour prayer clock such as we did when Fr. Seraphim first went into Sierra Leone. This clock will be for covering Kenya in 24 hour prayer. People may take one, or more, 15 minutes spans on the clock to specifically hold Kenya in prayer. Everyday at that time you remember Kenya. Your heart can do this while at home, work, exercising or resting. If you have an interest in participating in this Prayer Clock, reply to this email with your chosen time allotment and will set things in motion, hopefully completing a 24 day of prayer very soon. Of course, it is perfectly okay for more than one person to be praying at the same time frame. I'll start with 4 AM to 4:30 AM for myself and work up from there. Once it starts forming we'll post it on the blog to keep up with it. Thanks
